The magic of your own blood makes this a personal, natural treatment. Platelet-rich plasma or fibrin may be added to your microneedling or radiofrequency (RF) treatment and topically applied at the end of your appointment to boost healing and to treat signs of aging to the face, neck, and décolletage such as wrinkles, skin tone, and spots. Beyond use as a serum, PRP may be injected for hair restoration, for visible rejuvenation of the skin, or to add volume to areas such as under-eye hollows, the lips, or cheeks (sometimes blended with a filler product).
Adding platelet-rich plasma to your appointment only adds a few minutes to your visit as the plasma is separated from your blood during your treatment time. There’s no additional pain and your overall recovery time is shortened due to the healing actions of your PRP. With each treatment using your own plasma, anti-aging effects increase.
The concentrated PRP contains:
Used as a serum:
At the start of a Scarlet RF, Agnes RF, Fraxel DUAL, Venus Viva, microneedling, or fractional resurfacing treatment, your blood is drawn and spun while you are being treated. Microneedling or laser treatments intentionally and precisely wound and/or inflame your skin, making it easily penetrated and ideal for applying the concentrated fibrin serum. Immediately your body’s healing process begins repairing tissue, growing cells and producing collagen—all boosted by your own plasma.
Used as an injectable:
Assures no wasted PRP and precise placement directly into the area of collagen production and cellular activity. As with use as a serum, your skin’s healing processes are triggered by your treatment, followed by a cascade of cell growth, collagen synthesis, and other natural anti-aging benefits.
We obtain platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube. This sample is centrifuged to separate your plasma which we use for the treatment, from your red and white blood cells. Plasma contains high concentration of platelets, stem cells, and growth factors. Platelets help your tissue heal and grow new cells.
Historically, PRP has been primarily used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery to help speed recovery. Now cosmetic dermatology also uses it to help damaged, aging skin grow new collagen and elastin for beautiful, youthful results.
When PRP is used with microneedling it penetrates your skin through the tiny channels the needles create, supercharging the microneedling benefits.
Microneedling with PRP is a very safe and effective treatment for adults of all skin types who wish to improve their skin quality and health. The depth of the microneedling device can be adjusted to meet the patient’s individual needs and objectives. Due to its low-risk profile, microneedling with PRP is a good option for people who are not good candidates for lasers, such as those with darker skin types.
You’ll notice an immediate "glow" to your skin and it will continue to improve over the next few weeks. The full results can be seen up to six months post treatment as collagen production continues.
Adding PRP or PRF to your treatment only adds a few more minutes. The initial blood draw adds practically no additional time as it can be done while you wait for your skin to numb prior to treatment. The blood is processed in the centrifuge during your treatment. Whether your plasma is applied as a topical serum or injected, you can expect about ten additional minutes.
You appointment time overall varies depending upon treatment area and the type of treatment you and your practitioner choose.
Since the extracted plasma is autologous—which means it contains substances that come directly from your own body—it is not possible for your system to have an adverse reaction. This is one of the reasons PRP is so exciting and safe for medical, dental, and cosmetic use.
To make your blood as healthy and full of the good stuff as possible, focus on a very healthy diet in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydration is key, so drink plenty of fluids in the days before treatment, and then over-hydrate in the hours before.
The downtime is minimal with only one to three days of mild redness, depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. A post-treatment kit will help speed your recovery. You will be asked to stay out of the sun for 24-48 hours following the procedure and avoid washing the treated area until the next day. Some minor bruising and swelling may occur.
The addition of PRP to your treatment can decrease the overall number of treatments needed. Different treatments yield different results, and other variables come into play: the intensity of treatment, your goals, your skin type, your options for downtime, treatment area, and more factors. You and your practitioner will discuss the number of treatments you may need during your initial consultation.
No, this treatment has not been tested by the FDA, although the individual modalities Scarlet RF and ProGen PRP Platelet Concentration System are FDA-approved. Our confidence in this custom treatment is based upon clinical testing and data.
Several technologies developed for medical or esthetic purposes have also been shown to achieve outstanding results as hair regrowth treatments for men and women. With research into the best options we can offer, and with training from some of the nation’s top practitioners, we’ve developed this treatment utilizing Scarlet Microneedling to open micro channels in the scalp and injected PRP and exosome serum.
Modalities used in our treatment, individually or in tandem, can:
During treatment blood is drawn in the same way as a routine blood test. It is then placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate out the liquid plasma from the blood cells. The plasma contains platelets which are rich in growth factors that can activate cellular renewal. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp where it goes to work renewing the damaged and dormant hair follicles, activating new hair growth.
Yes, for the right candidates, treatments using PRP and microneedling can be very effective at both slowing hair loss, and stimulating the dormant hair follicles to begin producing strong, healthy hair again.
Still, there are many causes of hair loss. While PRP scalp treatments have been proven effective on most types of hair loss, during your free consultation we can determine if this type of procedure is right for your specific causes of hair loss. Our combination of microneedling, exosome serum, and PRP gives your body its best chance to naturally restore hair growth.
PRP hair restoration treatments generally work better on areas where there is thinning hair, rather than on completely bald areas. Typically, the earlier in the progression of hair loss that treatments are begun, the better the results.
PRP-based procedures are also safe for patients who are not good candidates for other types of hair loss treatments. Because it uses your own blood plasma and is non-pharmaceutical in nature, it is safe for pregnant or nursing mothers, cancer patients, and people with other underlying medical conditions.
PRP treatments can also help individuals with a thinning crown who do not want more invasive therapies such as hair transplant surgery.
Patients have received good results after one treatment. More treatments may be needed if hair loss extends over the full scalp. Usually, one treatment area covers the front, mid-scalp region, crown, or back of the head.
To make your blood as healthy and full of the good stuff as possible, focus on a very healthy diet in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydration is key, so drink plenty of fluids in the days before treatment, and then over-hydrate in the hours before.
After treatment, you may experience a feeling like a sunburn on the treated area for a few hours. This may be treated with ibuprofen (Advil or generic) and/or ice. For a few days, your scalp may be mildly sore and itchy. Strenuous exercise or other exertion should be avoided for 24 hours along with sun exposure on your scalp.
Each patient’s hair regrowth pattern is different. Patients have been known to see new hair growth just five weeks after a treatment with more dramatic results appearing between three to six months.
Washing your hair is recommended the morning of the microneedling and PRP session, or the night before.
You should wait to wash your hair for at least 24 hours. If possible, waiting two to three days before washing is recommended. When you wash your hair, use a shampoo that is free of sulfates and other harsh ingredients. You should also avoid other haircare products such as gel, hair spray, mouse, etc. for a minimum of three days.
Our hair restoration treatment utilizes five technologies—some new and cutting-edge, some time-tested:
Microneedling with Scarlet creates micro-wounds in your scalp which allows for better penetration of the injected serum and it also spurs your body’s healing process, which aids in optimizing the results. (We have several microneedling options, but have found Scarlet to be the best. For skin treatments, Scarlet usually combines radiofrequency with microneedling, but for scalp treatments, this is not beneficial.)
InfiniViveMD Exosome Serum is injected into the scalp. Exosomes are hugely important in cell structures, cell-to-cell messaging, and cell development, and in the case of their success in hair regrowth, they trigger follicle cells during hair growth phases. Our serum also extends the hair growth cycle (which shortens as we age), meaning that existing and new hairs have a longer period for growing strong and healthy.

Platelet-Rich Plasma is removed from your own blood, drawn during your appointment and spun in a centrifuge while you receive microneedling. During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss this process with you.
Once the PRP is separated from your blood, it’s injected into your scalp, saturating the treatment area in condensed stem cells and platelets. This causes a cascade of healing and cell growth, which stimulates and “de-ages” hair follicles.
Zimmer blasts cooling air onto your treatment area to minimize discomfort.
ProNox allows you to self-administer 50% oxygen/50% nitrous oxide during your appointment at any time pain or anxiety might flare up. It’s incredibly relaxing and is a wonderful way to alleviate pain. It is quickly processed by your system so you may safely drive shortly following your treatment.

A consultation with one of our medical practitioners is required prior to treatment. To make your blood as vital as possible, it’s recommended that you focus on a healthy diet and hydration with plenty of fluids the day before and day of your appointment.

Essentially, it’s similar to PRP, but with a different concentration of resulting components. It is not used for hair restoration as PRP has been shown to be more effective for this application.
Whether to use PRP or PRF for your skin care is determined during your complimentary consultation. It’s not about which between the two is better, it’s about which is better for your personalized treatment plan.
